I read Project Hail Mary the week before the movie came out - I usually try to read the book a movie was made from before the movie if there is one, if I think it's likely to be something I'm going to want to read. I actually owned the book already and had started it once, but got sidetracked before I got far enough in to get hooked. But this time I knew that we were pretty definitely going to see the movie and so I was like, gotta read this book! and I did - barely - I finished it on the Friday, the movie's release day, and we went to see it the next day. (I had to promise my husband and sister that I wouldn't tell them any spoilers!)

And of course I loved the movie, we all did (my brother-in-law, too!) and I loved the book. I don't know why I didn't read it sooner, really. (I loved The Martian, it was a pretty good bet that I would like this too.)

Anyway, this weekend I found a list of "Books to Read After Project Hail Mary" on YouTube, and as I've said here before, I love lists of books, so watch the video if you want - that's the link above - or here's the list.

I had read three of these - Andy Weir's other two books, The Martian, and Artemis (which I just read and is definitely the least of the three, but I still liked it), and then Carl Sagan's Contact (which was also made into a movie). I think I adored Contact when I first read it years ago, but I haven't read it in some time - and I loved loved loved The Martian, both book and movie, and in that case I actually saw the movie first. But anyway, here's the rest. (I didn't write them down in the same order they were in the video, so I just put them in alpha order by title!)

The Fold
- Peter Clines
Noumenon - Marina Lostette
Pushing Ice - Alastair Reynolds

Saturn Run - John Sandford & Ctein
Spin - R.C. Wilson (a Hugo winner)
Star Nomad - Lindsay Buroker
We Are Legion (We Are Bob) - Dennis E. Taylor

(I'm definitely going to be looking for some of these!)
